Spencer Agrees With McCain In Backing President George W. Bush
on Wed 11 Oct 2006 03:06 PM EDT
SPENCER: McCAIN IS RIGHT
CALLS FOR CLINTON TO SUPPORT BUSH
John Spencer, the Republican-Conservative candidate for U.S. Senate, voiced his support for Senator John McCain and his comments on the Clintons’ role in the current crisis with North Korea.
“John McCain is right," said the Republican-Conservative candidate for U.S. Senate. "The Clinton policy on North Korea was an absolute failure."
Spencer observed that the Clintons don't understand that Kim Jong Il is "a despot and despots can’t be trusted."
"He’s a brutal dictator who views appeasement as weakness, said Spencer. "Only strength will bring him to the negotiating table. Senator Clinton should set aside her political ambition and support President Bush during this crisis.”
John McCain Criticizes Clinton "Failure" In North Korea
on Wed 11 Oct 2006 02:56 PM EDT
"...As the President is trying to unite the nation and the world
to impose sanctions against the rogue state of North Korea, the Democrats and
Mrs. Clinton attacked the President of the United States..."
U.S. Senator John McCain
ABC News reported U.S. Senator John McCain criticizing former President Clinton for failing to act in the 1990s to stop North Korea from developing nuclear weapons.
"I would remind Sen. [Hillary] Clinton and other Democrats critical of the Bush administration's policies that the framework agreement her husband's administration negotiated was a failure," McCain said.
McCain stood firm behind President George W. Bush during an interview on FOX News with Sean Hannity and Alan Holmes.
"... People are free to criticize. People are free to disagree. But we're in the middle of this crisis. Look, this is a nuclear weapon, apparently, that could militarize the entire region, which could create tensions, which could lead to conflict. Shouldn't we all be agreeing with the President, getting behind him?"
Foreign Funny Money: Clinton's Spousal Loophole
on Wed 11 Oct 2006 01:39 PM EDT
Human Events has reported Senator Clinton finding a way to tap millions of d ollars from terrorists and Communist dictators for use in her impending 2008 presidential bid:
Speaking fees for her globe-trotting internationalist husband.
According to a new book by Human Events editor and Capitol Hill correspondent. Amanda Carpenter, the foreign money is being lined up by husband Bill for her 2008 White House run.
Entitled "Dossier On Hillary Clinton" -- Carpenter's book starts in chapter one detailing how the Clinton couple has circumvented campaign finance law.
"Money earned by a candidate's spouse does not have to be reported to the FEC, even though most married couples -- including the Clintons -- intertwine their finances. Thus prohibitted entities such as foreign citizens or foreign governments can legally contribute to Mrs. Clinton's campaigns through donations to her husband. This could take the form, for example, of paying Mr. Clinton a large sum in exchange for a speaking engagement."
...And former President Bill Clinton has managed to do a lot of speaking, around the world, including lobbying that has left him entangled with foreign matters that would -- under many circumstances -- constitute measurable conflicts of interest for a U.S. Senator.
Carpenter's research has uncovered the tip of a massive iceberg.
"Using reports from Sen. Clinton’s own Capitol Hill office, I learned about some of the unscrupulous places Bill Clinton has been taking money, including $200,000 from the JingJi real estate company that is headed by a Communist CEO, $300,000 from a group that opposes a democratic and free Taiwan and $475,000 from Saudi financial services and real estate conglomerate."
The Spencer Blog reported two weeks ago on the activities overseas by Glover Park, the Clinton "White House In Exile" lobbying for the emir of Dubai, and how Hillary Clinton's regular flip-flops on national security votes demonstrate this liberal Democrat's left-wing bias on foreign affairs.
Hillary Clinton Attacks President George W. Bush On North Korea
on Wed 11 Oct 2006 01:06 PM EDT
After drawing criticism from U.S. Senator John McCain, the campaign of Hillary Clinton could only manage to make excuses over nuclear tests in North Korea.
Senator Clinton had a spokesman lob a political grenade at President George W. Bush.
"History is clear that nothing the Bush administration has done has stopped the North Koreans. ... President Bush has been in charge of North Korea policy for six years, and two days ago we saw the brazen result."
Senator Clinton's campaign was reacting to observations by McCain on the "failure" of the Clinton administration to address North Korean's nuclear ambitions.
McCain was critical of Clinton's scapegoating, expressing that he found it hard to understand why she would be attacked at a time when President Bush is going to the United Nations to seek sanctions against the North Koreans.
"Incredibly, as the president is trying to unite the nation and the world to impose sanctions against the rogue state of North Korea, the Democrats and Mrs. Clinton attacked the president of the United States and accused him of being responsible, when the fact is that it is a failure of the Clinton administration policies that I was heavily involved in at the time that have caused us to be in the situation we're in today."

Spencer Calls On Clinton To Explain Opposition To Bunker Busters
on Tue 10 Oct 2006 12:11 PM EDT
CLINTON OPPOSED BUNKER BUSTERS
VOTED NO ON BOMBS TO PENETRATE N. KOREAN BUNKERS
John Spencer, the Republican-Conservative candidate for U.S. Senate, today called on Senator Clinton to explain her May, 2003 vote (S. 1050, roll call 189. May 21, 2003) against research and development of "Bunker Buster" technology.
Spencer's comments came in light of North Korea's claim that they had carried out an underground test on a nuclear device.
John Spencer said; "Two days ago, North Korea, a rogue nation ruled by a totalitarian despot, detonated an underground nuclear explosion. Three months ago, North Korea test fired a missile capable of carrying a nuclear warhead to U. S. soil. Three years ago, Senator Clinton voted to block the research, development and testing of weapons that could destroy the underground bunkers that are used in the development of, and are destined to house these weapons of mass destruction. 56 Senators, Republicans and Democrats, voted to develop "Bunker Buster" bombs while Senator Clinton and 38 other liberal Democrats voted against them. It's bad enough that her husband allowed North Korea to become a nuclear power. It's inexcusable that Senator Clinton voted against the weapons needed to protect our nation and our allies from the crazed actions of a communist dictator who starves, imprisons and murders his own people. Senator Clinton needs to explain her vote on this issue. Whether its Islamic fascists in Iran or Stalinist dictators in North Korea, America must have the weapons needed to stop them from launching a nuclear attack."

Clinton Leaves Armed Forces Unprotected -- Cuts Defense Plant Funding
on Fri 06 Oct 2006 04:09 PM EDT
CLINTON CUT FUNDS FOR ARMOR
"As someone who came under enemy fire in Vietnam, you know
I would always support funds to protect our armed forces."
SPENCER CALLS FOR EXPLANATION AT LONG ISLAND PLANT
John Spencer this week called on Senator Hillary Clinton to explain her vote on July 17, 2003 to redirect Department of Defense appropriations to programs to fight disease in Africa. A portion of the funds had been earmarked to improve armor protection on military vehicles.
Spencer challenged Clinton while touring the Hicksville, NY, facility of American Defense Systems (ADS). ADS upgrades the armor protection on military vehicles destined to be transported to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The former Yonkers Mayor noted that the motto at this Long Island plant has been “we protect and serve those who defend, serve and protect us" and Spencer observed, "Those words well describe the armor systems that protect American soldiers in the War on Terror."
"Those who work here are doing their part to insure that our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan return home," said Spencer. "One then has to question why Senator Hillary Clinton is not doing hers."
On July 17, 2003, Senator Clinton joined 23 other liberal Senators in an attempt to cut over $ 1billion from the Department of Defense budget. A portion of these funds were earmarked to pay for the type of work ADS does. It was earmarked to protect American men and women who serve to protect us.
"Senator Clinton needs to explain why she joined a cornucopia of liberals; including the likes of Senators Kennedy, Boxer, Leahy and Feingold, who voted to cut the funds and in turn cut the protective armor that surrounds our soldiers," said Spencer. "As someone who came under enemy fire in Vietnam, you know I would always support funds to protect our armed forces.”
For more information on the legislation please see roll call 288 – 2003 (Senate amendment 1283 to HR 2658).
Clinton: To Build Or Not To Build A Wall
on Fri 06 Oct 2006 03:46 PM EDT
Human Events reported Hillary joining with her colleagues in voting for the 700-mile fence along the border of Mexico last Friday.
The day before, she had voted against it.
"Her somewhat Kerry-esque position (she voted against it before she voted for it) is pretty much par for the course for Sen. Clinton on this issue."
Yet another example of political expediency/opportunism by this ambitious liberal Democrat -- Senator Clinton voted against it the day before to certainly say that she opposes the wall later on.
American Polish Council of New York State Endorses John Spencer
on Fri 06 Oct 2006 02:53 PM EDT
The American Polish Council of New York State, Inc., (APC/NYS) endorsed Republican and Conservative nominee John Spencer for U.S. Senator this week.
The APC/NYS consists of Polish American representatives from the Western, Central, Eastern and Downstate sections of New York State. The organization notes that, according to statistics from the year 2000 U.S. Census, more Polish Americans now reside in New York State than any other state in the nation, surpassing the status formerly enjoyed by Illinois.
As such, Polish American leaders from across New York have joined together in the APC/NYS in their erstwhile efforts to identify, promote and preserve the social, political and economic interests and aspirations of New York State Polonians.
The APC/NYS endorsement of Spencer took place in the Polish and Slavic Center at Greenpoint, Brooklyn, New York on Saturday, September 30, 2006. The former Yonkers Mayor was endorsed following a thorough review of the position papers, credentials, public service records, and resumes submitted by each declared candidate together with the personally delivered remarks of the Republican-Conservative candidate.
"After lively discussion, careful consideration and upon due deliberation, the APC/NYS determined that JOHN SPENCER is the best U.S. Senate candidate who will fully and fairly represent the interests and needs of New Yorkers, be they Polish Americans and those of our ethnic compatriots alike," said the American Polish Council, "The APC/NYS, in endorsing John Spencer for U.S. Senate, concluded that Mr. Callaghan has the experience, leadership, knowledge and sensitivity to serve as the New York State Senator in the U.S. Senate."
In endorsing John Spencer for U.S. Senator, the APC/NYS has urged all Polish Americans and like-minded ethnic New Yorkers to support JOHN SPENCER throughout the election campaign, to register and to vote for him on November 7th.

Clinton "Aiding" Al Qaeda
on Fri 06 Oct 2006 01:31 PM EDT
"What's her knowledge of war," he added, "except to protest them?"
John Spencer made it clear in The New York Daily News today that he believes Senator Hillary Clinton is "aiding" Al Qaeda when she demands the resignation of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.
"You don't think that's helpful to the enemy in a time of war, for a prominent and possibly presidential contender to be calling for the head of the secretary of defense?" an incredulous Spencer said during a sitdown with the Daily News Editorial Board."
Spencer won't play politics with our national security.
Hillary Clinton's political posturing to the left wing anti-war crowd is all about the 2008 primaries for President within the Democratic Party.

Hillary "Tires" of New York; Goes to Maryland, Ohio, Virginia ...
on Mon 02 Oct 2006 04:24 PM EDT
New York magazine reported last week that U.S. Senator Clinton will begin fundraising for swing-state Democrats in October.
Only 40 percent of New Yorkers approve of her job as U.S. Senator, according to a new CBS/New York Times poll that also found only 50 percent of the state want her to run for U.S. President.
42 pecent of likely voters oppose Senator Clinton's re-election --and her post-primary bump only leaves New York's junior U.S.Senator at 58 percent.
The same poll showing 14-21 percent undecided for statewide races.
The Associated Press reported on Hillary Clinton rallying Maryland Democrats, shown above at a fundraiser late last week.
"Clinton is part of what state Democratic party chairman Terry Lierman called a parade
of potential Democratic presidential candidates coming to Maryland."
Clinton's presidential travels aren't limited to just Maryland.
The Daily Press in Virginia reported that Senator Clinton will be fundraising for James Webb in Virginia, the Democrat challenging Republican U.S. Senator George Allen.
In one of a series of fundraisers in states in which the Democratic Party sees opportunities for gains in the Senate - and in which Clinton can gain wider national exposure - she will appear Tuesday at a fundraiser for Virginia challenger Jim Webb in Alexandria.
200,000 jobs short of what she promised six years ago when she first faced the voters, Hillary Clinton obviously cares more about running for the White House than serving New Yorkers as a U.S. Senator.

Clinton Doesn't Explain Vote Against Military Trials
on Thu 28 Sep 2006 06:28 PM EDT
GET TOUGH ON TERRORISTS
CLINTON MUST EXPLAIN VOTE AGAINST MILITARY TRIALS
John Spencer, the Republican-Conservative candidate for U.S. Senate, today called on Senator Hillary Clinton to explain why she “voted against justice being served on those who wage war on America.”
Spencer was referring to an amendment (Senate Amendment 5086) that would have gutted legislation allowing military trials for terrorists like 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.
John Spencer said; “Yesterday, Senator Clinton voted against justice being served on those who wage war on America and quite frankly, I’m shocked. The amendment she voted for yesterday would have gutted the legislation that would allow military trials for blood thirsty terrorists; Terrorists, whose only goal is to murder Americans, whenever and wherever they can. I’m talking about individuals like Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. who masterminded the attacks on 9/11 and who, according to Pakistani President Musharraf, personally beheaded Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl. Senator Clinton needs to be held accountable for this vote and she should explain why she is intent on treating cold blooded murders with kid gloves. Her actions amaze me, as I’m sure they amaze the loved ones of those who perished on 9/11.”
Gateway Pundit: Morris Comes Out Swinging
on Thu 28 Sep 2006 05:42 PM EDT
Gateway Pundit had the following from Dick Morris:
Dick Morris Makes Clinton Prediction in Blogger Conference Call
One Jerusalem today organized a blogger conference call with noted political strategist Dick Morris.
Mr. Morris is best known as a central strategist in Bill Clinton's re-election campaign for President of the United States.
Last week, Mr. Morris and Eileen McGann published a critical article about the Clinton's that the Main Stream Media largely ignored. Entitled "Emir's A Gusher for Bill and Hillary"
the op-ed charges that Bill Clinton and those in the inner circle of both Clintons have enjoyed large financial benefits from Clinton's relationship with Sheik Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. This story involves the controversial Dubai ports deal.
Since publication of this largely ignored column the news media has been hotly debating President Clinton's handling of the hunt for Osama bin Laden. Did he do enough or didn't he? Did Senator Clinton know that her campaign consultants were on the payroll of the Sheik?
In its continuing effort to bring to the blogosphere information that the Main Stream Media downplays or ignores One Jerusalem
took the opportunity to have one of the most astute Clinton watchers give his perspective. Dick Morris came out of the corner swinging...Dick Morris first talked about a Latest Clinton Scandal... the "Sheik Shakedown" Scandal!
Bill and Hillary Clinton's connection between the emir of Dubai, Sheik Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, seems ever more intimate. There is no six degrees of separation here! And, just how is Clinton being compensated for helping the Sheik?
* We don't know.
* There is a substantial basis for believing that it is a very large sum.
* The flip side is that there is a political side to this involving Sheik Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
* The emir is not a great guy. He is cited in a Miami court case for camel jockeying- child camel riders, a very dangerous profession especially
for children. The political reputations of the Clintons are linked to this story.
This was touched on briefly in the spring.Previously:Bill Clinton's Ship Comes In as Hillary Closes Port Clinton's UAE Dealings No One Night Stand, Hillary in Denial More on the Clintons and the November Election:* Clinton was a dismal failure in fighting terrorism.
Dick Morris told Bill Clinton that his legacy would include how he dealt with the terrorism. He failed!
Hillary is a European liberal and believes that they have a system that we need.
Was Clinton deliberate in his interview? 9-11 Report (and the conservative blogs) contradicts everything
that the Clinton's said during his FOX interview. There is nothing Bill does that is out of control.
His rages are the ultimate form of control. The closer you get to the truth the more vociferous he is with his indignation. Once the issue was raised about how he fought terrorism, he thought he had to unload. September is always his month. Not this year. Bill stepped on his story and brought attention to the Clinton years. This was a mistake. Ask Bill about something that hits close to home and he rages.Sandy Berger
was trying to take documents with hand written notes that would implicate the Clintons. This essentially knocked him out of the race for the Secretary of State. He was covering for the Clintons and actually destroyed some of the documents that he stole.
Dick writes columns for The Hill
and the New York Post.
Clinton threatened the media last week in an interview on Thursday morning about getting too close.
Gore would be the only one to beat Hillary next year in the primaries. He won't.When Hillary wins the democratic primary she has a very good chance of winning the national election.
The under-represented single women will come out in droves to vote for her.
Kerry had 9 million new voters.
With Hillary in the race, there will be a huge increase in voter turnout. Blacks and Hispanics adore the Clintons.Q: Why did Sandy Berger only got a wrist slap?
Morris: Bush helped the Clintons.
Bush pardoned the Clintons and their people.
Bush linked Bill Clinton to his father, Bush Sr., in Katrina and the tsunami relief and this elevated Bill tremendously.
Laura Bush just last week spoke at the Clinton Summit.
The Bushes did more to elevate the Clintons than anyone.Midterms?
The country wants to vote democrat. The country feels protected. The issues that remain lean toward the democrats. The scandals are horrific and the attempts to reform miniscule. Most people do approve of Patriot Act and wiretapping.
Bush every single day has to push the terror issue. It is very hard to make prediction at this point. Today 3-4 Republican and some house seats would be lost but this will change and slant towards the democrats in the month of October.
Next week One Jerusalem
will have an expert on the Middle East and International Terrorism talk about the Bangladeshi journalist who is on trial for blasphemy and faces the death sentence.Among the bloggers on the call:

Dick Morris calls Senator Clinton a "European Socialist"
on Thu 28 Sep 2006 05:28 PM EDT
Word has spread about a blogger's conference call held yesterday with Dick Morris that was hosted Allen Roth of The One Jerusalem Blog.
Among the bloggers on the call: Banagor from Broadsword, Don from Liberally Conservative, Jerry Gordon from Israpundit, Pamela from Inkme.tattoo, Anne Lieberman from Boker Tov Boulder, Michael Illions and Hank Butehorn from Conservatives with Attitude, Omri from Mere Rhetoric, Jim Hoft from Gerberian Shepsky, Kim Priestap from Wizbang, and Chad from GDLL.
"Last week, Mr. Morris and Eileen McGann published a critical article about the Clinton's that the Main Stream Media largely ignored. Entitled "Emir's A Gusher for Bill and Hillary" the op-ed charges that Bill Clinton and those in the inner circle of both Clintons have enjoyed large financial benefits from Clinton's relationship with Sheik Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. This story involves the controversial Dubai ports deal."
In addition to predicting that the Clinton couple's financial dalliance with the emir of Dubai would be "the scandal of '08" when Hillary Clinton runs for president, Morris called Senator Clinton a "European socialist" and warned that she was "Nixonian" in her ambitions.
Kim Priestap of Whizbang took note of how Bill Clinton's outburst last Sunday might draw attention away from Hillary:
"I asked Dick how Bill's outburst on Fox News Sunday could actually help the Dems when the interview did one thing: focus everyone's attention on Bill Clinton rather than on issues that actually help the Dems. After all, when Bill Clinton takes center stage, it's all Bill Clinton, all the time, and he sucks everything away from the Dems - it's cannibalistic in a way. Dick agreed and said that Bill Clinton's interview will hurt the Democrats for a variety of reasons. First, the interview brings attention back to terrorism, which is always bad for Democrats. Second, it also brings attention to Bill's temperament. Finally, it sucks all the attention away from Hillary, so now the question is how is Bill going to help get the attention back to her?"
The New York Post reported that John Spencer observed how Senator Clinton and her husband were now resorting to theatrics.
"This act is getting old and the American people realize it. The time has come to stop the theatrics."
Pamela at Atlast Shrugs agreed that Bill Clinton's outburst was calculated.
Today on ABC News— - Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich believes former President Clinton's blow up during an interview on "Fox News Sunday" -- and the escalating war of words over whether he or President Bush mishandled opportunities to catch or kill Osama bin Laden before the Sept. 11 attacks -- was premeditated to shore up support for Democrats ahead of the November midterm elections.
"I think that as the most experienced professional in the Democratic Party, he didn't walk onto that set and suddenly get upset," Gingrich said. "He probably decided in advance he was going to pick a fight with Chris Wallace."
This, Gingrich said, may have been a good strategy.
"I think as a calculated political decision, it's reasonably smart," he said.

Spencer Pledges More Federal Aid To Help Battle Meth
on Thu 28 Sep 2006 02:36 PM EDT
SPENCER: MORE HELP NEEDED TO BATTLE METH
PLEDGES TO FIGHT FOR MORE FEDERAL AID FOR NY STATE
"One sees the obvious need for increased federal support for law enforcement,
first responders and the Haz-Mat crews that deal with lab and dump sites."
At a morning news conference in Bath, NY, John Spencer, the Republican and Conservative candidate for U.S. Senate, called for increased federal aid in the battle against “Meth Labs” in New York’s Southern Tier.
Joining Mayor Spencer at the news conference, which took place in front of the County Jail, were Steuben County District Attorney John Tunney and Sheriff Richard Tweddell.
“I came to Steuben County today to call for increased federal assistance in the war on Methamphetamines and in particular assistance in helping states and local governments deal with the problems created by “meth labs’ and “dump sites’ located within their boundaries," said Spencer.
Spencer noted that crystal meth is a drug that creates a wide range of challenges in the communities where it is a problem.
"The problems it creates go far beyond the typical incidents of increased crime and decreased quality of life associated with most drugs," explained Spencer. "Meth, directly and indirectly, threatens the health and well being of family members, neighbors, first responders, and the environment every time a lab or dump site is discovered. It is a drug that is highly addictive, fairly easy to manufacture and relatively inexpensive. But its biggest threat lies in its volatility during production and the toxic by-products it creates; every pound produced in a lab creates 5 pounds of toxic waste. This waste is almost always dumped indiscriminately into to the environment and an active lab is constantly at risk of exploding.”
The most recent report issued by the DEA (2005) shows an increase in use and manufacture of methamphetamines in 3 regions of the country. New York State falls into two of those regions; the Great Lakes and the Northeast. And while use has stabilized in the New York City metro area, it has increased in rural upstate areas. Seizures of labs or dump sites in the state rose from 2 in the year 2000 to 20 in 2005.
The increase in states to our south and west were even greater and presents a disturbing trend. When local law enforcement (nationwide) was asked which drug was viewed as posing the greatest threat 39.2% said Methamphetamines, with 4 drug types dividing the remaining 60.8%.
“Meth labs clustered in the vicinity of state borders present unique problems for law enforcement. Couple that with the rural nature of this region on both the Pennsylvania and New York sides of the border and one sees the obvious need for increased federal support for law enforcement, first responders and the Haz-Mat crews that deal with lab and dump sites. As Senator, I’ll fight to see that New York receives its fair share of federal support.”

John Spencer Has Solutions For Upstate Economy
on Wed 27 Sep 2006 04:55 PM EDT
SHOW ME THE JOBS!
SPENCER BLASTS CLINTON ON “EMPTY PROMISES”
John Spencer, the Republican and Conservative candidate for U.S. Senate, called on Senator Hillary Clinton to explain her failure to create jobs for the residents of upstate New York.
At an afternoon news conference in Binghamton, Spencer, the former Mayor of Yonkers noted what Clinton hasn't delivered to New York State.
"Six years ago you promised 200,000 new jobs for New Yorkers…you failed and now you owe the voters an explanation”.
Just 48 hours earlier Senator Clinton had visited Binghamton to speak at a venture capital symposium as a part of her re-election campaign.
Spencer had the following to say about Clinton's "empty promises" on economic development.
"Senator Clinton, when it comes to job creation you have a lot of explaining to do. Six years ago you promised 200,000 new jobs for New Yorkers…you failed and now you owe the voters an explanation. The junior Senator doesn’t seem to get it; high taxes and onerous government regulations kill jobs. Tax cuts and a level playing field spurs job creation and grows the economy.”
John Spencer has described his success in Yonkers as a potential model for cities throughout Upstate New York.
During two terms as Mayor of New York’s 4th largest city, Spencer cut the municipal Income Tax Surcharge and the Real Estate Transfer Tax by 66%. Spencer jump-started waterfront development, creating a business friendly environment that attracted new investment and brought in new jobs.
“Six years ago Senator Clinton made empty promises to the residents of Binghamton and upstate New York and now she must be held accountable. Just like her friend, Assembly Speaker Shelly Silver, Senator Clinton is a tax and spend liberal. Clinton and Silver are two “peas in a pod” in that they’ve never met a tax they didn’t like or a regulation they didn’t embrace. We must stop the exodus of jobs out of New York State to Pennsylvania, Ohio and points south. We must take the steps needed to make New York competitive once again.”
"We must stop the exodus of jobs out of New York State to Pennsylvania, Ohio and points south. We must take the steps needed to make New York competitive once again."
Clinton and Silver: Two Liberal Peas in a Pod
on Wed 27 Sep 2006 04:19 PM EDT
Today in the Southern Tier, John Spencer also has this observation about Senator Clinton and New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver.
Bill O'Reilly of FOX News once described Albany's ruling Democrat as "the worst politician in America."
"Just like her friend, Assembly Speaker Shelly Silver, Senator Clinton is a tax and spend liberal," said Spencer. "Clinton and Silver are two “peas in a pod” in that they’ve never met a tax they didn’t like or a regulation they didn’t embrace."
Clintons and Dubai: How much has Glover Park netted Hillary Clinton?
on Wed 27 Sep 2006 12:52 PM EDT
Columnist and former Clinton political surrogate Dick Morris and Eileen McGann detailed today -- in The New York Post
-- what could be millions of dollars in conflicted lobbying dollars from the emir of Dubai, Sheik Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
From last week's New York Post (9/21/06):
Emir's a Gusher For Bill and Hillary
Dick Morris and Eileen McGann
With each new disclosure, Bill and Hillary Clinton's connection between the emir of Dubai, Sheik Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, seems ever more intimate.
Last February, Sen. Clinton was out front in condemning DP World, a Dubai government owned company seeking to take over key operations at American ports. But, at the same time, Bill was advising the emir to hire his former press secretary, Joe Lockhart, to get the deal approved.
Back then, Lockhart denied working for the emir. And when Bill's role became public, Hillary claimed that she had no idea that he had any involvement in DP World issue.
Now, it turns out that the emir's Dubai International Capital Corp. hired Lockhart's company, Glover Park group, by last April to help with another U.S. deal -- a takeover of two defense firms (Besides Lockhart, Glover Park's partners also include Hillary's chief political gurus, Howard Wolfson and Gigi Georges. Dubai paid the firm $100,000 for its services.)
Oddly, the lobbying came through a California law firm -- Morrison, Foerster. One of that firm's partners is Raj Tanden -- whose sister is Neera Tanden, Sen. Clinton's former legislative director and still a top Hillary advisor.
No six degrees of separation here.
Did Hillary know about the lucrative lobbying contract that her husband's patron and friend, the emir, gave (via her aide's brother's law firm) to her chief campaign consultants?
Did her own top consultants tell her about their Dubai deal? Did they ask her permission? We don't know.
Hillary's office claims that Glover Park never lobbied her on either Dubai issue. But Newsday reports that it did contact other New York critics of the port deal: Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Peter King. Why wouldn't they contact Sen. Clinton, too, given her objections? Maybe they don't have to because Bill delivers on those issues at home.
The relationship between the Clintons and the emir has long been too close to avoid scrutiny.
Something is driving up Bill and Hillary's net worth pretty dramatically. In 2003, Sen. Clinton disclosed assets of at least $352,000 but less than $3.8 million. By 2005, she was declaring assets in the $10 million to $50 million rane.
What caused the jump? It might have been Dubai.
* Clinton is a top advisor to Yucaipa, an investment company run by billionaire Ron Burkle, which, through a subsidiary, got to manage the emir's investment portfolio shortly after Clinton joined the firm.
* Clinton gets a flat fee from Yucaipa and a share of the profits on the foreign investment fund it manages. (Hillary's Senate disclosure form notes only that Bill gets more than a $1,000 a year in compensation from this.)
* The emir gave an undisclosed donation to the Clinton Presidential Library -- but it must have been hefty: The library set up a Clinton Scholars program for young people from the Arab nation, the only such program it runs.
* Bill Clinton has twice given speeches in Dubai for close to $500,000.
The close ties to the emir may cause problems for the Clintons. The sheik turns out to be not such a nice guy. Just last week, a group of parents filed a class action lawsuit against him and his brother in federal court in Miami, claiming that they conspired in a scheme that "abducted and trafficked thousands of small boys from South Asia and Africa to the United Arab Emirates and other Arab states and enslaved them to work as camel jockeys, camel trainers and camel tenders."
The suit says that "boys as young as two years old were stolen from their parents, trafficked to foreign lands, and put under the watch of brutal overseers in camel camps throughout the region."
It's time for the financial relationship between the Clintons and the emir to be fully disclosed. There are too many questions and conflicts here that need to be sorted out.

John Spencer, Republican and Conservative candidate for U.S. Senate, agreed with what Dick Morris said last week in The New York Post about Senator Clinton and her husband's lack of disclosure on Dubai.
"It's time for the financial relationship between the Clintons and the emir of Dubai to be fully disclosed," said Spencer. "There are too many questions and conflicts here that need to be sorted out."
